We have a radio in every room in our house, all FM/AM plus the older 2cars. Is there any digital radio that will have a recorder on it in the future as we have many tapes and like to record the Archers on a Sunday morning.?We do not want the expense of changing our radios, we are quite satisfied with the reception we have now.

Our DAB signal is getting worse and not better – I bought my first DAB radio many years ago and we now have several, but find that the signal is so poor that good old FM is back again and hopefully for good. I use 198LW for the cricket as DAB is not really working at all in any room. If DAB is going to work, there is a lot of work required and it seems to be regressing.

If FM Radio is switched off by 215, will digital Radio have a stronger signal and will dab plus replace FM and mw Radio and what would happen to Radio 4 Long wave. Yours faithfully. Mr. Mark Colpstein from East Finchley.

Will the DAB signal be strong enough for in car operation? It isn’t at the moment

Some time ago wrote into my MP about this digital thing. I brought up the question of power use. Have you covered this angle? Portable radios will be virtually out of the question. Even with advances in technology. Digital electronics is power mad. Batteries are no match for it. Perhaps a car radio would cope for your picnic as they do have a large battery, but the coverage of digital so far has been next to useless. Your radio would have to be scanning for the best transmission as you move about. It all costs power!

Why does my Boston Acoustics DAB radio sometimes drop the channel (BBC R4) at the hour when the pips are transmitted, with ‘Station Unavailable’. The signal is otherwise strong and reception is good. To correct this I have to either re-tune or power down the radio at the mains, merely switching it off at the control knob doesn’t work as it retains the settings. I assume therefore it does a frame sync at power up with the multiplex channel. The problem correlates with the silence and pips, so something is confusing the decoder at this point. I can’t be the only one seeing this.
